Dearest Aunt Iris...Cousin Stephanie...Cousin Drew.
Michelle and I are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Uncle Braum.
Our deepest condolences go out to you and the family.
Time and tide wait for no man…and it’s been years since we’ve seen each other, but rest assured I think of you, and Braum often.
In many ways my path was shaped by my engagement with Braum back in Burford, Ontario…In a world full of Tobacco farmers, Braum was the first real Engineer that I ever encountered.
His advice and tutelage led me in a similar direction.
I remember, fondly, those Christmas gatherings, at Grandma and Grampa Quittkats house on the “Woodbury Road”. Braum, Herman, Mickey, Larry and Ed playing cribbage…the house completely full of Uncles, Aunts and cousins….I miss those days.
…and I remember Braum taking us to see the Toronto Maple Leafs, in the St. Mary’s Gold seats directly behind the Maple Leaf’s Bench, back in the old Maple Leaf Gardens….He introduced me to the “Hot Stove Lounge" between periods. We learned how to swear from the likes of Darryl Sittler and Lanny McDonald. I had such admiration for my uncle Braum.
He gifted me one of his old, wooden, engineering slide rules…I keep that as a remembrance and talisman to this day. It maintains a place of honour in my top drawer of my den desk…He made me understand that there are places, outside of Burford, where I could use my engineering aptitude.
I miss him dearly.
Please take solace in the fact that you, Iris, Stephanie, and Drew, got to embrace the “larger than life” personality that was Braum Vermeulen…His humor, his wit, his Joie de Vivre, his love and pride of his family and friends....he made the most of every moment and opportunity. He embodied my personal mantra...."Live Well this Life"
Today the world is a little more gray without Braum…but our lives are better for having known him. May we all learn from his journey and embrace every moment, every friend, every love one...and every opportunity to live our lives to the absolute fullest!
…Through the tears…find your fondest memories.
Love,
Michael, Michelle, Brittany, and Nicholas Lipcsik

I only knew Bram later in life as he became my daughter’s father in-law. We had a common interest in fishing and he introduced me to some amazing fly fishing for speckled trout. He had a real enthusiasm for life and I will miss the time we spent together.

Dear Iris and Family
On behalf of Renata and I we’d like to express our deepest condolences on the passing of Bram. I was always very grateful for his belief in me. He was always very passionate about his family, friends and fishing and was always so proud of the success that St Marys and its employees accomplished.
May he rest in peace as the “best guide”

Dear Iris and family,
It is with the late Ronald and Margaret Keeler in mind that I want to let you know that the whole Keeler clan is grieving with you.
I had the pleasure of meeting you both at a few St-Mary’s events and also at Ron and Margaret’s get togethers and Ron never failed to impart some stories and anecdotes about Bram’s successes and adventures. There was such great respect between them.
Words are never enough in these moments but know that we share in your grief.
Be well and take care of yourself.
Louise Lanctot-Keeler (late Bryan Keeler) and family

Bram was a rare human being with a razor sharp wit and a reverence for fun. He gave me my first job in 1976 after a 6 hour interview at the Barmaid’s Arms. That was Bram. God be with him!
My sincerest condolences to Iris and the family.

To Bram's family and friends
I’ll never forget my first meeting with Bram.
It was right after the acquisition of St. Mary’s Cement in 2001. With his warm smile and his ability to bring people together around him. We immediately saw in him the qualities needed to be the first CEO of our first acquisition in North America.
Rest in peace, my friend. May you continue enjoying your great fishing trips!

May I extend my sincere sympathy to Iris, Stephanie and Drew. And may I offer this tribute to Bram.
I was fortunate enough to consult to St Marys Cement for many years, and privileged to work for Bram during his tenure as CEO.
Bram was a gentleman, a man of his word, every inch a people person. He was remarkable -- a truly educated man in the fullest sense of the word. He possessed boundless energy, and was keenly interested in the world at large. Although he was a cement man to his fingertips, he understood the subtleties of all of SMC's businesses -- both cement and non-cement. Accordingly, he was able to adroitly steer the company through the turbulence of its abrupt change of ownership, and to lay the foundation for its future success.
And then there was Bram's one-of-a-kind sense of humour. His wit was unforgettable: always trenchant, always right-on-target (and, just occasionally, unprintable!)
R.I.P., Bram

Iris, Drew and Stephanie. Sincerest condolences from the Popoffs
Bram was so proud to be a part of the St Marys Family…employees and customers. He often spoke of how he loved the fact that we all shared a common ‘fire in the belly’…passion. He loved everything that life had to offer. We were so lucky to have him become the CEO of the group. He had a vision of where he wanted to go and we shared that proudly. Even the hourly folks at the plants would comment on how he would take the time to visit with them and shake their hands. They still remember him as the CEO who went the extra mile to say hello and thanks.
One of his many achievements was to establish a state of the art research facility…which continues to operate and contribute to St Marys/Votorantim’s success in the market. He is missed…but his legacy lives on.
Again, condolences from me and Kathleen

To Bram's family, I started with SMC when they first started in Wisconsin back in 1982, flew to Toronto to interview with Bram and Barrie, and stayed with St. Marys for almost 40 years and knew and respected Bram all that time. He came to Wisconsin many times and attending several games and became an avid Green Bay Packers fan. My fondest memory was after GB won the Super Bowl, Bram asked me to get the video recording of the broadcast so he could watch it at his home. He asked me to bring it to our annual sales meeting and bring it to him at breakfast. I almost overslept, and he called my room to see if I had the recording, so he saved me from being late to the start of the sales meeting which saved me $50. Just 1 of many fond memories of Bram. My deepest condolences to Bram's family. He will be truly missed.

Iris, Drew, Stephanie, you and all his many friends and acquaintances have lost a one of a kind great Gentleman. His laughter and his wit will be missed. Bram enjoyed life to the fullest and he managed his trials over the past number of years with fortitude and resolve to not let it interfere with his daily routines and enjoyment. It was my sincere pleasure to have worked with him and remain in contact this many years since his retirement. I hope you are at peace in a better place Bram!

To Iris and family. I am so sad to learn of Bram’s passing. When I needed him most of my life, while learning about the cement sector, he was there for me, he was such a mentor,
Coach and friend to me and the hundreds of those who he took under his wing. He was a treasure, a man’s man and a gentleman. He will be missed. I am privileged to have known him and I share in the family and friends grief over his passing. I will have a martini tonight and think of him with the fondest of memories. Mike McSweeney.

Iris, Drew, Steph, words cannot truly express my and Ida's grief in Bram's passing. Although I knew it would be getting close, I find it leaves a hole in my heart. Got back a day late.
We started out having a business relationship and became the greatest of friends. We spent countless hours fishing together and at times were the last ones coming off the lake in a storm because fishing was so good. Our "misadventures" are legendary. There will never be another man like him.
Skol to my besty.

Iris, Stephanie, Drew - our sincerest condolences on the passing of Bram, a greatly respected and admired colleague and friend. He and I shared a similar path within the St Marys group of companies, facing the many challenges in the crazy world of M&A as the company navigated through evolving corporate identities, juggling of international parents and the financial and market turbulence flowing from good times and bad times. Through all of it, Bram represented and upheld the great name and pride of St Marys, a figure head who sustained our culture and reputation, his word his bond, a handshake his seal, ever the eternal optimist, the glass always half full, the humor of the moment never overlooked. We’ve lost a good friend and a great leader, who is permanently etched in our memories.
