Nancy Ann Hovenden passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, in Cobourg, ON. She was born December 31, 1948, in Montreal, daughter of Thomas and Laura (Cuerrier) Hovenden. Nancy attended public schools in Montreal and graduated from Loyola College in 1970. She moved to Toronto in 1977, then to Port Hope in 2003. During her career she worked in a variety of businesses, finally in the travel field, primarily with Cubana Airlines.
Nancy loved jazz, flowers, and gardening, and was a long-time member of the Port Hope Garden Club. She attended St. John's Anglican Church in Port Hope for many years and sang in the choir. In recent years she fled Ontario winters for the warm weather and sunshine of Florida at the Polynesian Village community in Englewood. She lived life in the moment, was open and friendly, and her smile was radiant.
She will be terribly missed by her partner and love of her life Ben Bangerter and is survived by her sister Wendy Meletis (Fanis) of Belleville, ON, brother Frank (Krista) of Courtenay, BC, and her nieces and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Paul Harris, brother David and sister Carol Carey.
Friends will be received at St. John's Anglican Church, 33 Pine Street North, Port Hope, on Thursday May 29th, for a memorial service at 11 am. If desired, donations in remembrance of Nancy may be made to The Nature Conservancy of Canada or to The Salvation Army.
