Dr. Raymond Paul Tesluk
October 27 1942 to June 17 2025
Ray, our much loved and cherished husband, father, brother, friend, colleague, and doctor died on June 17th, 2025 after a short struggle with vascular dementia. Left to remember, celebrate and mourn him are his wife, Anne, daughters Joy and Eve, brother John, sons in law Ryan DeWitt and Mark Nixon, grandsons Isaac Nixon and Kieran Nixon, sisters-in-law Lois and Judy, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Mary Tesluk, brothers Michael and Stephen, brother-in-law David, and sister-in-law, Joyce.
Ray was born and raised in Timmins, Ontario, where his father ran a meat packing business, and he was often called in to skin weiners, clean the septic tanks, and drive trucks full of pigs. He graduated from O’Gorman high school, and entered medical school at the University of Toronto, where he met Anne, in anatomy lab, as they dissected a body together. They married in 1966, graduated in 1967, spent centennial year in Vancouver interning, and then returned to Timmins to do general practice, and reopen his father’s business.
They soon found out that running a meat packing business was unprofitable, and after 6 years relocated to Port Hope, close to Anne’s family. Ray practiced medicine there for 45 years, aquiring a CCFP and FCFP, along the way. He was a coroner for the District of Cochrane and County of Northumberland for over 50 years, sat on many committees of the Port Hope and District Hospital, and did a short stint as Chief of Staff. As a break from the demands of medicine, he started a business developing and selling a medical billing program, and also developed a bird song identification program for Anne. He provided lively piano music at home and at parties, and fitted in jazz lessons. In his later years he was a staunch supporter of AA, and sat on the Reunion Committee of Class of 1967 for many years.
Most importantly to his family, he supported us always, through some major illnesses and mishaps, and was always there when we needed him.
We would like to thank the staff of Northumberland Hills Hospital, Ward 1a, and Blackstock House of the Golden Plough Lodge for their kind care.
There will be a celebration of life on July 10 2025, at St. Mark’s Parish Hall from 2 to 5.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, the Arthritis Society or CAMH, in his memory.
