With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Clifford March Short on July 8, 2025, at the age of 90.
Born in England on March 26, 1935, Clifford immigrated to Canada as a young man and made Port Hope his home for the majority of his life. A dedicated educator, he worked as both a teacher and librarian at Dr. Hawkins and George Hamilton schools. Over a 30-year teaching career, Clifford became a familiar and respected figure to generations of students and colleagues.
In retirement, Clifford embraced the opportunity to travel across Canada, often camping and exploring the outdoors. He was also an active and generous member of his community, volunteering his time with the Capitol Theatre and helping others by driving patients to medical appointments.
Clifford is lovingly remembered by his wife of over 40 years, Ingeburg Short (née Rummel); his sons, Jeremy and Adrian; his daughter-in-law, Jennifer Short (née Russell); and his grandchildren, Russell and Ella. He will be deeply missed for his quiet wisdom, dry wit, and enduring kindness.
A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a local literacy program, library, or community organization in Clifford’s memory.
