It is with great sadness on Saturday, July 26th, 2025, we lost a beautiful soul – Thomas Joseph Butler (Tom) – at the age of 75, soon to be 76 on July 30th.
Tom was born and raised in Port Hope, on July 30th, 1949. He shares many great memories there with friends and family.
He left for a time and moved to Toronto to be with his wife, the late Mary Anne Butler, who had a teaching job there. He was a very devoted and loving husband. Both of them decided to take early retirement, and moved back to Port Hope to spend their remaining years.
Tom had the best sense of humour and could always make you laugh. He was caring and kind to everyone, especially to animals. Tom took pride in his yard and garden, was a true fan of the Montreal Canadiens, and loved watching his British comedies.
He was a dedicated father, and shared a very special, loving relationship with his daughter Anne Elizabeth Butler – they were besties.
Tom was the dear son to the late Bernard and Jean Butler. Cherished brother to Shirley Soos (late Leslie), Lois Lovshin (Norman), the late John Butler (Cathy), late Bob Butler, late Cathy Moore (late Dennis), and Mary Bax (Russell). He will always be remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Go now in peace Thomas, and fly with the angels.
A graveside service and interment for Thomas will take place on Tuesday, August 5th, at 10:30am at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Port Hope (130 Toronto Road).
In lieu of flowers, Tom and his daughter would like donations given to Ed’s House in Cobourg. He passed away peacefully there and was surrounded by so much love and care. His daughter can’t thank them enough for how they made her father’s passing so peaceful and full of grace. It is such a special gift to have this place, and needs to keep going for so many other beautiful souls. As well, a very special thank you to the palliative care unit at Northumberland Hills Hospital.
