Terrance (Terry) Hill Obituary

Terry left this earthly life quietly and peacefully at Ed’s House in Cobourg. He leaves to mourn him, his loving wife of 55 years, Jan; his brother Gary (Jodi) Hill and sister Debbie Sangster (Mike), and their family. He was predeceased by his parents William and Helen Hill, and his lifelong friends Paul Davidson and John Hare.

He attended York University and Huron College at Western, and then joined the R. Simpson Company for a long and distinguished career in men’s fashion retail.

He was somewhat of a Renaissance man – a superb chef, a wine aficionado, an artist, an avid reader and follower of all things political, and a worldwide traveler: his special place was his beloved Kenya.

He restored an 1864 stone house to its former glory and cherished his days there.

A skilled fisherman, he was lifelong chairman of the Dixie Lake Fisherman Association. Since moving to Port Hope, he joined Sunrise Rotary, was a volunteer radio announcer at “Small Town Radio”, and was on the Boards of the ACO Port Hope branch and St. Mark’s Heritage Foundation.

Forever grateful thanks go to Dr. Francesco Mulé, who was with both Terry and Jan every step of this last journey; to Dr. Jude Obomighie, Tina and Vanessa, Dr. Mukesh Bhargava, Tania and Shannon; to Northumberland Hills Hospital and their care in each and every one of his days there; and to Ed’s House for making his last two days peaceful. Thanks always to the PSWs, especially David, paramedics, amazing Joe Glass, nursing care Victoria and Holly, and special thanks to volunteers Laurie, Penny, and Bev. He had a long struggle, and all above helped him live the life he so desperately wanted to live.

In lieu of flowers, if desired, a donation to Northumberland Hills Hospital or Amref (African Medical Relief Emergency Fund) Health Canada would be most appreciated.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 13th, 2025 at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Cobourg, with Father Matthew McMillan, who became very close to Terry. Visitation at 1:00pm, service at 2:00pm, with reception after.
