It is with heavy hearts we share the sudden passing of John at the Northumberland Hills Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, on September 18, 2025. He will be forever missed by his mother and father, Gladys and Joe, brother Steve (Carrie Bailey), and sisters Judy (Eric McCoy), and Cindy (Allan Barrett). Lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews, Travis (Kirsten), Breanna and Sarah Bailey (Carter), Jacob and Kathryn McCoy, Justin (Jessica), Tyler (Taylor), and Allysen Barrett (Kurtis) and great nephews Carson Bailey and Miles Barrett. John held dear his time spent with extended family, including many aunts, uncles and cousins. We will forever be proud of John’s valiant efforts to overcome his cancer diagnosis, his constant positivity towards treatment plans, and his appreciation for those who cared for him in the hospital. 

John loved all things related to the outdoors, music, and his family. He especially enjoyed fishing along the Ganaraska River and camping at provincial parks over the years with family and friends. From his high school years onward, he found great joy in playing the drums with many different styles of music. Playing and listening to music wasn’t just a hobby for him, it was a lifelong passion. John’s sense of humour and wit added an element of warmth and laughter and will be deeply missed at family gatherings.

We invite family and friends to a celebration of John’s life at the Cobourg Lions Community Centre, 157 Elgin Street East, Cobourg on Sunday October 5th, from 2 pm - 4 pm. Words of remembrance shared at 3:00 pm.  In keeping with his wishes, the immediate family will gather for a private interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Port Hope. If desired, donations may be made to Northumberland Hills Hospital Cancer and Supportive Care Clinic or the Intensive Care Unit in John’s memory, and in recognition of the extraordinary care he received.
