I only played baseball with John for a few years but he was a great pitcher and team mate. I will always remember the grit and determination he showed to come back from his hand injury. My condolences to his family and friends.

My Deepest Condolences to Debbie and the family on John's passing.
I met John for a golf trip to Mrytle Beach with the rest of the Mrytle crew.10 years ago.
John was an amazing golfer, he never got upset if his ball went into the trees he would say better shot next time.
I am proud to have known this amazing man.
You will be forever missed. RIP my great friend.
Dan Albin.

Debbie and family,
We are truly sorry to hear of John’s passing and offer our sincerest condolences. One of my favourite memories that still makes me laugh was his teasing as well as your Mom’s when I was visiting with Brenda. He always knew wgat buttons to push to get a reaction out of me. Hold the memories close and remember he lives forever in your hearts.

It was a very sad moment to learn of John's passing. He fought a huge battle for the last two years. I will always remember my favorite umpire at our Ladies League baseball. His smile and laughter was always bringing a smile to everyone. Rest in Peace John. Sue and Lorne Coe

Debbie, Jamie and Shawn and family. I am so sad to hear of John's passing. I have to say you guys had a really great Husband, Dad and Poppie. You could just feel the love he had for his family. I know John was a Baltimore Oreoles fan so maybe he can give the Jays a hand, at least they are in the same division John. Rest JT you will be missed.

John and Debbie have been our dear friends for over 40 years.
John’s booming baritone voice and those sparkling blue eyes will always be a fixture in our memories of him. Back in the day when John often umpired minor league ballgames at Peel Park, we could hear him make the calls all the way to our front porch many blocks away!
Our heartfelt condolences to Debbie, Jamie, Shawn, Kim, Shayna, their precious grandkids and all the Turner Family as you grieve the loss of this special man.

John was an amazing pitcher. he was also very intense.. during one of our big games, John was pitching and I was playing first base. he had a great pick off move, but I did not make the catch. A few seconds later, I hear this rock whizz by my head and I look up and there is the John stare… in all fairness the throw may have been a little off, but he sure got my attention.
The Whitby Senior team won 3 Ontario championships with John being one of our aces!

When I called John, he would fondly call me Dion because of an incident that happened in Kmart long ago. Growing up, I listened to many after game baseball chats he had with my Dad from the back of our station wagon. He was a great athlete excelling in precision sports like pitching, darts and golf. He bought me a pair of Lee overalls when I was 15 for Christmas. John would use our family’s red and white Dodge Charger to go pick up his sweetheart Debbie in Myrtle and I was lucky to be a pastel green bridesmaid in their wedding. My kids loved that he had a Smartie tree in his backyard that he would harvest whenever they visited. He was a great brother, who loved his family and cherished every moment with his grandchildren. You will be missed dear brother. Love Dion (Kerry)
