It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Chris Trevor in his 94th year.
Predeceased by his parents - Edwin Austin Trevor & Kathleen Isabel Norah Nicolas, and his brother and sister-in-law Anthony Edward Trevor and Rolande Gauthier.
Chris was born in Ottawa and brought up in Perth, Ontario. He attended Queen's University and received a degree in commerce in 1958. As a summer student and after graduation, Chris worked at the Toronto office of the Ministry of Transport in the Audit Department. Part of that time he also worked out of the Port Hope office and gained a love of the town.
An opportunity to move to Port Hope was through an advertisement for a high school teacher for the business curriculum.
In 1959 he married Joan Pauline Wilson, and moved his family in 1960 to start his life here in Port Hope.
As a family we enjoyed summer camping around Ontario, and then bought a cottage lot on Bob's Lake; first building a cabin, then a cottage. This cottage recreated the summers he had as a child on Rideau Lake.
He taught at Port Hope School until 1981.
As a child, Chris was an avid swimmer, played football, and ran track. He also played hockey in the position of goalie. He was a life-long golfer. He retained his life-long love of Canadian football by cheering on the Ottawa Rough Riders, yelling at the TV when the wrong pass was made. He also had a great love of the Toronto Blue Jays and Maple Leafs, enjoying the Jays in 30 programme, as he never managed to stay awake for the whole game.
Upon retirement from teaching, Chris travelled to China and several trips throughout Canada and to Florida for the winter. In his later life, Chris lived a quiet life, watching the golfers from his back garden on Dale Road and pottering around in the garden.
Upon reaching 90 we persuaded him to move into Roseglen Village Retirement Home, which he enjoyed very much and made some good friends.
At this point in his life, his health began to suffer - first with a heart attack, then Covid, then prostate cancer, and finally a stroke.
Chris leaves behind his sons Philip and Tony, and his daughter-in-law Mary. He will be remembered as one of life's gentlemen, who always opened doors and would not abide swearing.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Cornish, Dr. Kay, and the caring staff at Roseglen Village. A very big thank you to the hospital staff in the Stroke Ward, 2B, and the Palliative Care Ward. Your kindness and patience with him was very much appreciated.
A gathering of rememberance will be held at Rushnell Funeral Home (103 Mill Street North, Port Hope) from 2-4pm on Saturday, January 31st, 2026.
