The Rev. Dr. Edwin Heaven

1933 - 2026

Ted died peacefully at his home in Port Hope on February 20th in his 93rd year. He was predeceased by his parents Boyd and Grace Heaven of Hamilton. Also by his eldest son Michael (Roberta) of Vancouver in 2021 and his brother David (Jan) of Haliburton in 2025. He is survived by his beloved wife and faithful companion of fifty years Carol of Port Hope. Also his daughter Ruth (Chris) of Aurora. And his son Mark (Lori) of Brampton, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also survived by his sister Gwynneth (Bill) of Ottawa. Also by Ann Pratt of Dundas, mother of Ted's three children. 

Born in Hamilton. Educated Hillfield School, McMaster University (undergraduate and graduate degrees), Trinity College Toronto, and the Swiss Ecumenical Institute. Ordained an Anglican priest in 1957. Incumbent of Anglican parishes in Grimsby and St. Catharines. Chaplain of a Student Centre at McMaster, then Assistant Professor of Religion at the same institution. Associate Professor and college principal at Laurentian University. Moved to Port Hope in 1981 to join the academic staff at Trinity College School.

In 1965 Ted marched with Martin Luther King in Selma, Alabama. 

Retirement in 1997 provided opportunities for further study and research, civic duties - fifteen years on two Town Council committees plus chairmanship of St. Hugh's House serving the developmentally handicapped. Parish visiting for St. John's Anglican Church. Recreational activities included canoe-tripping, tennis, squash, collecting old books and restoring them. 

A private family eucharist and service of commendation will be held at a later date in St. John's Church. Ashes to be interred in Haliburton.
