Donald Louis Andrew MacIntosh Obituary
It is with devastated hearts but joyful memories that we announce the passing of Donald Louis Andrew Mac Intosh at the age of 74.
Don fought a courageous battle over the last six months, giving us a “Christmas miracle” after open heart surgery so that we could be with him, surrounded by his love, for three more months. We called him “Our Warrior,” as he showed incredible strength to be with us each day until his body could no longer sustain him.
He passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of his life, Patty, their daughters, Shannon, Heather-Jo (Ian), son-in-law Oliver and granddaughter, Kalli. He is now sending heavenly hugs down to his beloved grandchildren Kalli, Akira, Carter and Alexandria-Jo (AJ).
He was predeceased by his Mother, Sarah; Father, Louis; brothers, Adrian (Bernadette), John (Marg) and sister, Diane. He is survived by his brother Reg (Linda), sister in law Jo- Anne (Paul), and all his cherished nieces and nephews.
Don grew up in Scarborough, Ontario, delivering newspapers, playing baseball and teaching guitar. In high school, he took on leading roles in musicals and played as lead guitarist for years in the band “The Eccentrics.” He also joined Patty in her church folk group at St.Peters Church in Toronto where they first met at age 14 and were married eight years later for over 52 years.
He attended the University of Toronto and York University, earning a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Education Degree. Known to all as `Mr. Mac` a beloved chemistry teacher and Vice-Principal for over 30 years with the Peel, Dufferin-Peel, Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board.
He loved his cottage life, camping, campfires on Mazinaw and Kashagawigamog Lake, especially driving the boat touring Bon Echo rock. Backyard patio happy hour with a cold beer, along with travelling, created countless treasured memories for all of us.
His greatest pride were his grandchildren—attending their events, watching and cheering as they played their sports: Kalli (softball), Carter (baseball), and AJ (gymnastics, cartwheels, and any sport she set her mind to). Akira, along with all of them, were always encouraged by Papa to further their education and find their passion in life.
Don will be remembered as a loving and supportive Husband, Dad, Papa, Uncle, Brother, Father in Law, Brother in Law and Friend, whose strength, courage, and kindness were an inspiration to all who knew him. The loss is immeasurable but so is the love left behind.
Don’s Celebration of Life Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mercy, 155 Walton St., Port Hope, ON, on Friday, April 24, 2026 at 1:00 p.m., followed by a tribute/visitation/reception at Dalewood Golf CLub, 7465 Dale Road, Cobourg, from 2:30–5:00p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Michael’s Hospital Foundation, in support of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit Fund would be deeply appreciated by the family. Please visit https://stmichaelsfoundation.ca/DonaldMacIntosh or call 416 864 5000.
