Violet was born in a little house on 72 Royal Street in Oshawa Ontario to the parents of Lydia May Durdle and Isaac Power (the S on the last name got added in Oshawa) from Bonavista, Nfld.
She is predeceased by her parents and siblings Robert, Howard, Barbara, Wilford, Donald, Phyllis, and Norman.
She is survived by her older brother Charles (Doreen), her beloved 3 children Franz (Christine), Teresa (Timothy), Jeff (Lathika), her Irish Rose Jackie, her cherished 8 grandchildren Barry (Kristen), Heidi (Craig), Kailey (Marcelo), Anthony (Natalie), Adam (Kelsey), Rebekka (Jesse), Joshua (Tabitha), and Sarah-Mai, her adored great-grandchildren Jewelionna (McRay), Savannah, Bradley, Mercedes, Anastasia, Noah, Finnley, Adaline, Nash, Isabella, Gladys, Seth, Noelle and Baby Caressato due this summer, and her precious great-great-granddaughter Theadorra. Violet is also survived by her numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Violet worked many years at Bell Canada as a switchboard operator in her teens, then a stay at home mom to raise her children. She eventually worked payroll at Sears for a little while, then back to Bell until her retirement as a telephone operator. She loved gardening whether it was indoors or outdoors, doing puzzles, poetry, walking, biking, and dancing the shimmy. She had a passion for movies and always had a great suggestion. She had the natural skill for cooking and always had the best tips. She loved babysitting all the grandkids and hosting the many slumber parties. After every visit, she'd give a handful of cookies from the cookie cupboard.
We wish to thank Extendicare Port Hope staff for their care of Violet. Her nurses and PSWs became close friends and companions, whom she always spoke so fondly of. We would like to thank Northumberland Hills staff in emergency and the Palliative Care team for their dedicated compassionate care.
Memorial donations can be made to Sick Kids Hospital in Violet's memory, for their work with her grandchildren.
