Obituary of Lorne Russell Shrum

Shrum, Lorne Russell P. Eng March 26, 1916- July 19, 2010 Lorne passed away peacefully in his sleep at Cobourg?s Northumberland Hills Hospital after a long life well lived. He spent the last eight months living with his daughter and son-in-law in Gore?s Landing Ontario. Lorne was born the eldest of three children in Enniskillen Township, Ontario, to Edward & Gertrude (Rilett) Shrum. Lorne served during the Second World War as an ERA in the Navy aboard the HMS Kirkland Lake. Lorne graduated in 1950 from McGill University in Montreal as a Mechanical Engineer and worked at Hawker-Siddley, Stelco, Canadian Bronze and Eaton Yale & Towne before starting his own company Accumold in Huron Park, Ontario. In his late 50?s Lorne invented a process to mould copper forms used in continuous casting of ingot steel which is still in worldwide use today. Lorne will be missed by his two children Craig & Virginia (Eric Ritchie) from his first wife Gwendolene (Yates). He was big brother to Kenneth (deceased) & Bernice (Robert Long, deceased) in London, Ontario and Uncle to Robert & his wife Sandra of Elkford B.C. Lorne was pre-deceased by his second wife Doreen (Hawken). He will be lovingly remembered by stepsons Terry Siddall (Sherry Anne), John Siddall (deceased) and Robert Siddall (Gayle) and their families. His lifelong friendship with Ray Watson and Ray?s extended family was cherished by Lorne. As per Lorne?s wishes, he has been cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date. For those wishing to do so, donations in Lorne?s memory may be made to a charity of choice.
