Obituary of Edward Henry Haalstra

Haalstra, Ebbel Hendrik (Edward Henry) "Ed" to his family and friends. September 14, 1938 - March 10, 2012 Early morning, Ed was embraced by his loving Saviour, having found peace and rest after a long struggle with cancer. He is deeply loved and missed by his wife of 37 years, Donna (Martin) and cherished by his three children and their spouses, Martin and Lisa (Geier), Marlene and David (Clark), and Chris and Candace (Welbourn). Papa was most proud of and adored his nine beautiful grandchildren, Jonathan, Caleb, Ashley, Ethan, Jolanta, Jayden, Keegan, Laila, and Avery. We love you Papa! Papa was born born in Lutjegast, The Netherlands, and came to Canada in 1950 with his family. Papa was happiest when busy at work and took pride in the fruits of his labour. Along with his brother, George, he farmed in the Dunnville area from 1956-1979 winning awards for their Red Holstein cattle, the first such herd in Canada. From 1979 he worked faithfully at Curtis Chicks in Port Hope until he was no longer able. Friends will be received at the Allison Funeral Home, 103 Mill Street North, Port Hope on Monday from 7-9 pm and Tuesday at Grace Christian Reformed Church, 440 King Street East, Cobourg from 1 pm until Funeral Service at 1:30 pm. Cremation to follow. If desired, memorial contributions in his memory may be made by cheque to the Canadian Cancer Society. www.allisonfuneralhome.com
