Chris and David and families,
Your Dad will be remembered by so many people for his teaching career at The School on the Hill. The Kerr family will remember both Richard and Betty for their loyal friendship of Jim and Betty over many years and especially for the way they cared for and about Jim after Betty passed away.
Richard was always enthusiastic about everything and it is no wonder he had such a positive impact on so many of his students.
I too will miss him.

Sorry to read about Mr Honey passing away.Like so many of the gifted men who struggled to reach and teach us "not so gifted students"I can say he surpassed all expectations of a Master. The older I get,I told my wife this AM,the more I realize that the men such as Mr Honey,Godfrey,Scott,Campbell,Mitchell, and the list goes on...each live on in a small piece of each of our individual make ups or fabric as men.Legacy?Mr Honey's will live on and on through all of the lives he touched and made a difference in.
Rest in Peace until we meet again

It is with sadness that I read of the passing of our great teacher. With fondness I remember his special qualities.
I have vivid memories of Dicky teaching with passion and care for each student. His fascination with Biology was contagious. He loved to engage us with current science news in Scientific American. With great wisdom he knew that regardless of whether we pursued hard sciences what we were learning would overlap our lives providing us insight into the physical world around us. Many of his lessons piqued our imagination about the world that lay ahead. Dicky’s lessons on recombinant DNA were riveting especially at a time when gene splicing was a vanguard topic. In a community that thrived on history and tradition he was always ahead of his time and place. He was a modern thinker and a model teacher.

David and Chris - I was very sorry to learn of your father's recent passing through the ubiquitous TCS email chain.
I have fond memories of his command of the classroom and he was even able to get me through a science course or two.
I'll be thinking of you and your families as you gather to remember your father and the good times.
Regards
Doug

Mr Honey, as he will always be to me, was pretty much solely responsible for my love of biology and for my pursuit of a career in medicine. His high energy classes and straight forward practical approach to the subject had me enthralled from day one. As we had not had any biology before grade 13, he took us through 2 years in one, allowing us to sit the Grade 13 exams and go straight into the biomedical sciences at university.
I was blessed by having many talented teachers at TCS, but Mr Honey was always my favourite. To him I owe a successful career of almost 40 years in medicine.
He and you as his family will be in my prayers.
With many fond memories,
Jon Dreyer, Class of '69

My deepest condolences upon hearing this sad news on such a dark, overcast day that seems to support it. When I think of my most outstanding, favourite teachers at TCS (and there are many), Richard - oops...Mr. Honey took the cake for #1. It's a rare teacher who cares that his students actually learn but it's all the more rare for a teacher who can instill enthusiasm for his subject. Although I was likely better at English, Mr. Honey gave me the gift of loving Biology. Hands-on Biology of a sort that made you want to learn more. I was ready to consider going on with it in later years, but I didn't. Yet the interest was there - and I even saved the key text book where it sits in a special place. That's how much he made me love the subject, a testament to his gift as a teacher. He was also skilled at being interested in each of us as individuals - sincerely so. I am only sorry I did not return that in kind, although I was able to see him at the school in subsequent visits.
A kind and special man – and no doubt a sensational father, I am not sure we'll ever see his kind again. This is a monumental passing - and a sad one for me.

My condolences to the family. "Dicky" Honey was an excellent science teacher. He taught me biology, showing me the fun and sense of investigation and exploration that science could be. I remember him leaning over an experiment of mine that I had designed with plants and light. When I asked him what the results meant he said "hmmm, isn't that interesting". I'm sure he knew the answer, but he didn't tell me; he let me wonder, let me think I was exploring new things. So I became a scientist. I remain grateful to him. I'm still having fun doing science.
my very best wishes,
Andy Thomas, '76

Mr Honey was my Housemaster in Bickle House from '85 - '89.
He was very kind to me being a wide eye Calgary boy trying to find his way Trinity. Fair, honest and always keeping track of how well I did at school and on the field. I have great memories of his House Meetings jammed full of some 60 young men discussing all business of the house with his fine sense of humour.
He was also my bio teacher that did such a great job, it inspired and armed me for a career in the environment.
My best wishes to his family who I hope finds brighter days ahead.
Sincerely,
Carey Booth

Dear Honey Family;
Your dad taught me from 1975-9, and coached me in tennis. I have many fond memories of your dad over the years, and appreciate all that he has done for us 'boys' at the school. Upon my return from the UK in 2000 I had the pleasure to reconnect with Mr Honey on many TCS occasions.
Please accept my condolences on your loss. He was a good man and very committed to his students education and wellbeing. I was fortunate to have known him.
Best, John Hogarth

It was just last week that I was recollecting a couple of my most influential teachers at TCS to current faculty members (we recently moved to Port Hope so that my wife and I can send our 4 girls). Mr. Honey had the greatest impact on my education at TCS as well as my future vocation. Mr. Honey taught me biology and with great consideration and passion, he nurtured my love for biology - I attended the University of Toronto and graduated with an M.Sc in biochemistry and a Ph.D. in molecular biology. He was a wonderful teacher and with emotion is missed.
Peace to his family,
Sincerely,
Julian Northey

David, your father was a great teacher, and some of his lessons still guide me. The one I still invoke was the exercise in which we were asked to describe a potted plant. We described the flowers, the leaves, the stems, the roots - at which point he asked us, "How do you know about the roots? Have you seen them?" We argued that "of course there are roots, everyone knows that!" At which point he pulled the plant from the pot - there were no roots - he had cut them off and "replanted".
That lesson has guided me well over the years, in many situations that had nothing to do with plants.
All the best to you and your extended family.
Brian

Sorry to see such a kind teacher and coach pass on. I was looking forward to talking with him next May at the TCS class of 1972 reunion. He had a positive and sociable personality that made him a figure that I looked up to as a student and as an adult. He will be missed.
