I am very sorry to hear of Dick's passing. He was one of the most extraordinary men I ever had the privilege to meet and spend time with. I interviewed him for Historica Canada's "Memory Project" about his time in the SBS during the war, and had many a conversation over the phone and in person - Dick was always so generous with his time and memory (and was never afraid to tell it as he saw it, expletives and all)! A true hero and one of my idols.

Knew Dick for many years. He was on the Library Board and I worked at the Port Hope Library when I first made the acquaintance of Dick and Eve. They were wonderful folks. Every year they would invite all the Library staff to a barbecue at their home as a thank you for our service to them and to the community. They were our constant companions at the Branch 30 dinners and we had some great conversations. Our last visit with was at Empire Crossing just after he had moved in. He will be missed as he was a well-known and well-liked member of our Port Hope community.

I'm very sorry to hear of Dick's death. We taught together at Central from 1965-67. We kept in touch at Christmas time, thanks to Eve's letters. Please accept my condolences.
