I was so sorry to hear John had passed away. I had rented a Cottage from
John and Mary for several years on Weslemkoon Lake. Right from the start
he and his wife made me feel part of the family. When ever they were
going to be away from the Lake for a few days John would say to me: " Just make yourself at home. You're in charge". John and Mary have been one
of the nicest couples I had ever met! I wish I could have known him longer.
Sad news indeed.
Thinking of you Mary. Hope to see you again. Bill Riffle

Dear Mary and Family,
Our deepest condolences on the passing of John.
You and Mr. Nisbett (before I was allowed to call him Nezzie) welcomed me to Port Hope in your store when I first moved there from the city as a 13yr old kid. You both were kind and treated me with respect that I never expected; and set the standard for customer appreciation in my eyes. Greg and Phil picked up the ball and were always there to shoot ...the breeze..and let me hangout as long as I wanted.
Over the years as I listened to Johnny over many encounters at the cottage, I truly enjoyed pouring him a libation and hearing about....everything! Shell and I often recall his outrage when she asked if was still a member of "that cult". It was great fun winding him up. He had a great sense of humour and none of us will forget when he had Tom Cochrane visit the cottage and speak about the music biz.
Mary, Greg, Again, our sincere condolences and we think of you often and will certainly never forget Nezzie.

Dear Mary:
My sincere sympathy to you and your family for your loss. I never met your "Johnny", but the memories and experiences that you shared during caregiver meetings brought him to life for me. It has been a long journey for all of you. Now that John is gone I hope that these memories will continue to bring you and your family comfort.

To the Nisbett Family,
The Boon family would like to offer condolences in the passing of your father/husband. He was always such a bright spot everywhere he went. When my dad, Gerry Boon was in the hospital and later at Extendicare, we often had a little chat with Mrs. Nisbett and John as we all walked the halls. We marvelled at how John and Gerry seemed to be on the same path; first together at the adult daycare in Cobourg, then at the hospital, then at Extendicare. It's been a tough journey the last few years for John and it's good that he is at peace. Wishing every comfort as you grieve. Sincerely, Henny Boon and Family Dirk, Jane, Geoff

I will always remember his infectious laugh, and his ear to ear smile as he greeted us every summer to his annual pool party. As soon as we would arrive he would send my brother Michael and I to search for this hidden golden dollars buried somewhere in the backyard. We never did find them!! I know he found the Golden Gates and I pray that he rests in peace and that the lord now gets to enjoy his smile and quick whit. He was all Irish in the way that he loved to tease and toy with those that were closest to him. My condolences to Mary, Debbie, Donna, Diane , Jackie and Greg. To all of your families and your children, I am truly sorry for your loss and the loss to all of his brothers and sisters. It was an honor knowing Uncle Johnny and all the good that he did for the community and his service with the Shriners and the city of Port Hope. I am sorry I can't be there for the service but please know my thoughts and prayers are there in spirit.
Love and Blessings

Tom Nisbett R.I.P. my Brother. Our Patriarch John is is now at rest after a long and successful life here on earth. John was the 3rd oldest of our family of 13 and was someone we all looked up to as he encouraged us to be successful, honourable and always work hard. He was our family historian and spent hours tracing our history. John was a dedicated Funeral Director in his early years working with his father here in Peterborough & later with the Thompson Funeral Home in Belleville. John started a career in the clothing business shorty after and owned his own business in Port Hope, John Nisbett Clothing Store until his retirement. John was involved in many organizations that helped others in need such as the Salvation Army, his United Church families, the Masonic Fraternity, the Rameses Shriners including the Kawartha & Lakeshore Shrine Clubs. John had a tremendous sense of humour. His memory & successes will live on forever with his family and siblings. William John Nisbett 1932 - 2017. I add 2 of my favourite pics of John.(1) In his Funeral Director attire at the entrance to Nisbett Funeral Home on Charlotte St. Peterborough and (2) with his loving wife Mary at the Nisbett/Nesbitt Society gathering in Livonia Michigan.
