My sincerest condolences to the family of Mrs. Cappler. Yes, that is how I knew her....as Mrs. Cappler. A lady much respected in the figure skating world, which is where I had the privilege of meeting her. If she was one of my judges I always knew that no matter how things turned out on test day, my results would always be fair. If you passed you knew you REALLY deserved it & if you did not pass a test she would kindly explain why & what you need to work on. I had such respect for this wonderful lady.
My mother, JOSEPHINE NORTHEY had kept in touch with Mrs. Cappler over the years & she will greatly miss the phone calls & letters that they shared.

Dear Sylvia and Family,
I was heart-broken to hear that your dear Mother and my friend had passed. She was a friend to all figure skaters who knew her -- so kind to the young ones who were nervously taking their first tests. Mary would always answer the call to come to Trenton to judge when we were in a bind (she said it was because of the good food). I can see her standing on the ice in her parka and clipboard on those cold test days. In later years I was privileged to be part of a bi-annual lunch date with Mary and retired (mostly) judges. Our next lunch in the fall would have been a 100th birthday celebration which we were all looking forward to. I'm sure we'll still celebrate with a fond toast and warm memories of our beloved Mary.
With deepest sympathy, June

Dear Sylvia and Donald and Family.
Mom was an inspiration to all that knew her. I'm remembering Mary how I enjoyed her company to Kingston as we were members of E.O.S executive for Figure Skating. Mary was always helpful an obliging to be a Judge for me as Test Chair for P. H. F. S. C. at the Peter Campbell Arena. We both enjoyed togetherness on the Tues. Afternoon Bowling League. And what a beautiful sewer. She had many talents. You can sure be proud of your Dear Mother. Please accept our Condolences Belle Eyman and Family.

I only have joy in my heart for Mary! She lived a long life with all her faculties (her word last time I phEd5poned ;-) and we laughed about that!). Her sewing and design skills inspired my own. She took two dresses and made them into three with just a bit of 'peu de chose' of tulle. She was surprised but pleased that I remembered them.

So sorry for your loss. Mary was a wonderful lady. When I tested my Gold figure I had no coach to put me out, she wouldn’t go to the test day & Mary made me feel so comfortable and at ease. I passed. Even got a congratulations from Peter Dunfield. The sport needs more Mary’s. She was a great advocate.
