Obituary of Beverley Virginia Carter
Carter, Beverley Virginia (Bev) "With heavy hearts, the Carter Family announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved Beverley Virginia. The end was swift and painless. The pain truly lives with those she left behind. Christened aboard HMCS Prince David at the height of World War Two, Bev would go on to amass an amazing assortment of friends, both human as well as animal through her career at the Metro Toronto Zoo, from it's inception until her retirement several years ago. Never was she happier than to be at home with her life partner, Kara, and a small menagerie of cats and dogs. The Japanese garden in the back yard was her pride and joy, and provided her with untold hours of tinkering pleasure. Skilled with a variety of power tools, it was not uncommon to find sheetrock stacked in the hallway of the eighteenth century house she and Kara lived in and worked on. Her brothers, Philip and William, tried, without success, to con(vince) her to throw her shoulder to the wheel in renovation projects at the family's Riviere du Loup cottage. But she felt the boys needed their space. This didn't stop her, however, from getting together with old friends at that self-same cottage, to trip to the Oldies, and do no work at all, no brothers allowed. Predeceased by her parents Roderick Crysler Carter O.B.E. and Florence Kathleen Coristine, she leaves behind Kara Besson and her brothers Philip Crysler Carter (Nancy) and William Allan Coristine Carter (Marilyn) and nephews Christopher (Pat), Robert and Gordon (Krista), and nieces Kathleen (Tom) and Linda. Words cannot express the shock and sadness we feel today, but it is of great comfort to know that the transition was as smooth as we'd all wish for ourselves. Please say "Hi" to Mum and Dad for us! Godspeed, dear Bev!" Friends will be received at the Allison Funeral Home, 103 Mill Street North, Port Hope Monday 2-4 & 7-9 pm. A memorial service for family and close friends will be held Tuesday at 3 pm. If desired, memorial contributions may be made by cheque to the Toronto Zoo. www.allisonfuneralhome.com
