I remember Mark and Nora walking by my house everyday at Bedford street, with their dog. I also used to see them at the church in Port Hope. We were neighbours. Was a nice gentleman and very dignified. I could tell it on his bearing. Rest in peace Sir.

I was a very unhappy parent, bewildered and anguished by the harmful and foolish practices at my son's school, and I felt so alone and helpless to do anything about them. I spent hundreds of hours in the library of the local university documenting what was wrong, but the educators wouldn't listen to me. When I found out about Mark, an education professor, who agreed that the schools had gone way off the rails, it was like the sun had come out. And when Mark agreed to work with me and a group of like-minded parents, it was like a miracle. I will never forget his integrity and kindness. We never did succeed in cracking the education nut, but at least we tried. I am so grateful for Mark's help and support to this day.

I have fond memories of my brother in his teens and twenties, and I was the annoying little brother. I have a particular memory of his first car, an ancient two seater. I was allowed to travel in it on the boards behind the seats, ‘providing I didn’t complain about being uncomfortable’. I recall too one of his first forays into teaching, in a girl’s secondary school in south London. Although in recent years, the Atlantic Ocean has separated us, we had good times when we were able to meet up. I shall miss our political discussions, we may not always have agreed but we never parted on bad terms. I am afraid we can’t be with you physically on 7th March but we shall be there in spirit. Love - John and Joy
