Mr. Tancock was the epitome of a history teacher. We adored his Canadian History class in grade 13 at Laurier CI. He also arranged a trip to Ottawa for any interested students - we had a blast. We met Pierre Trudeau. Mr, Tancock was strict - one day we arrived late to his class, but fortunately brought him a milk shake from "Licks" (Midland and Kingston Road), which he readily accepted and we were no longer in trouble for being late.

Mr. Tancock was a great teacher of history and politics. When I continued in post secondary, history was one of my majors. I continue to have a great interest in the subject.
He also encouraged us to be involved in politics and to understand the current issues as we became eligible to vote. I remember he encouraged us to scrutineer the provincial election so we would understand the election process first hand
He was also our chaperone and guide for our high school trips to Spain and Greece 1978/79. After those trips he was forever affectionately known as "Dad".
To his family, I am sorry for your loss but hope you find comfort knowing the impact he has had on the lives of his many students.

To Ken’s family,
I was a beginning teacher at Laurier C. when I first met Ken. I was always impressed with his nonchalant cheerful manner and understated sophistication. It seemed a privilege to be on a staff with a man of such academic stature. I send sincere condolences to his family. Thanks, Ken, for happy memories.

I was privileged to be on staff at Laurier C. I. with Ken for 9 years in the Seventies, then reconnected with him here in Port Hope in retirement. He was truly a gentleman and a scholar, an engaging conversationalist and storyteller and, above all, a person committed to social justice. He will be remembered fondly by many friends, colleagues and former students.

I am just one of many grateful former students who owe Mr. Tancock a lot. He was a great teacher who made you want to think and write better. RIP, Mr. T.

Sorry to hear of Ken’s passing.
The notice brought back many high school memories with Ken and Nina: singing in the choir and Ken’s solo at the festival, our experiences with farm service and tea at their house.
My condolences,
Grace Willson (nee Wallington)

I was a troublesome student. Mr. Tancock was an understanding, patient and tolerant teacher. He was easily one of my favourite teachers on an amazing staff at Agincourt Collegiate, in the mid to late 50's. I would characterize his approach as "fair but firm", something I tried to emulate later when I was a teacher, still later as Speaker of Ontario's Legislature. Years later I met Mr. Tancock at one of Agincourt Collegiate's reunions. It was great to chat with someone I had always admired. I find it truly sad to think of his passing. He was a great teacher and an even greater human being! He set the bar high for civility.

We are saddened to say we will miss your dad's happy face & great kindness. Ken was a great neighbour for 30 years.
Many good memories talking to him & swimming in his pool. It is really special that he & your Mom (Babs) passed on the same
day. Now they are together again.
He will never be forgotten!!!!!

The Tancock Family
We were so sorry to learn of Ken’s passing. We have enjoyed his company on many occasions for many years.
He was a staunch member of our loosely organized men’s Tuesday luncheon group, until his diversion to the Crossing. We were able to hold our last luncheon with him in his room.
We hope that your memories, and the support of your family and friends, will give you some measure of comfort. Please accept our condolences.

I had no idea that my grade 13 history teacher and I had been living in the same town for many years. I attended Sir Wilfrid Laurier in its opening year. I was not a memorable history student but I remember Mr. Tancock being an enthusiastic, pleasant and dedicated teacher.
I send my condolences to the family.

Martha, so sorry to hear of the passing of your Dad. He was such a wonderful gentleman, always had fantastic stories to share. Treasure your memories and the family history, that he worked so hard on. I remember him being excited to retake the drive in his civic, (seems like yesterday) to ensure he detailed everything properly. God Bless
