Obituary of Catherine Lynn Nevin

Nevin, Catherine Lynn With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Cathy Nevin (née Zealand), after a long and courageous battle with cancer at Northumberland Hills Hospital on Tuesday February 9, 2021. Born in Peterborough, on October 6th, 1962 to proud parents Geraldine and the late Gerald Zealand. Cathy was an exceptionally loving mother to her three children and recent grandson; her sons Alex (wife Valerie and son Finnegan) and Chris, and her daughter Ashley (her partner Cosmo) and beloved sister of Debbie, Diane, Tommy and Janice. Cathy was a devoted and loving wife of 37 years to her husband, John, married on August 18th, 1984 For more than 20 years, Cathy was a constant and passionate presence in helping hundreds of children learn and grow in early childhood education in Northumberland County; at The Resource Centre, the YMCA Early Years Centre, and as a personal support worker for children living with disabilities. Cathy overcame her shyness by performing fiercely and working with the Northumberland Players in a number of stage productions. She was a constant artist, enjoying photography, painting, calligraphy, and more recently with craftworks in beach glass. The family thanks Dr. Mulé and all the nursing staff, especially Tara, Janet, Karen, and Colin at Northumberland Hills Hospital for their extraordinary care, support, and understanding throughout. Due to COVID-19 precautions, a private funeral for close family will be observed. A celebration of life will be planned once precautions are lifted. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation, Northumberland Players, or to the Northumberland Humane Society. Cathy's warm and talkative presence wherever she went will be sorely missed but never forgotten by all those who knew and loved her.
