To Mary Anne and John and families: We were so sorry to hear of Madelon's passing. Dennis has many fond memories of skating and playing hockey on the best backyard rink in Port Hope. We always enjoyed our occasional phone calls from Madelon reminiscing about the good old days. She was always so friendly and cheerful and will be missed. I was a 16 year old boy from Nova Scotia in 1980 when I arrived at Trinity College School in Port Hope. It was the first time I had been away from home and by myself. I was lonely and a little lost but Mrs. Kelley and her mail room brought a small piece of home to me. I think, in many respects, she was like a surrogate mother to all of us boys who came from away to board at TCS. She was warm and friendly to us, always smiled and asked how we were doing. I remember meeting up with her again at either our 25th or 30th Class of '82 reunion. She remembered me and I her. It was so great to see her and have a few minutes to chat. If I think back now, she has left a wonderful legacy of empathy, compassion and kindness to all of us who were away from home attending TCS but found a small piece of home in her. Beati Mundo Corde (Blessed are the pure of heart).

Mrs. Kelley was a wonderful person. She was the cheerful person on the other side of the mailbox. When my parents moved to Port Hope almost 30 years after I graduated in 1970, Madelon made the feel welcome. She also visited my father at Roseglen Village when he later lived there.
My condolences to her family. She was a wonderful friend.

Mrs Kelly had a calming and nurturing affect on so many TCS boys. I was from a small town completely unaccustomed to the school’s habits and rituals and yet she made me feel special.Very fond memories of a great lady and what a smile !

Madelon really was one of a kind. She made so many of the TCS boys feel so loved and left a remarkable impression on all of them She ran the mail room with such efficiency and at the same time had time to spare for everyone who came to see her. And she had postcards from all over the world proudly on display. My father Jim Kerr had enormous respect for her and cherished her friendship over many years. The rest of the Kerr family have many happy memories of her kindness and great sense of humour .She will be very much missed by a a great many people whose lives she touched.

I was one of the many hundreds of TCS boys who had the pleasure of knowing Madelon Kelley. She knew everyone, and everyone knew her. We always looked forward to seeing her because she invariably had a kind word, a great sense of humour, and a real interest in how you were doing. I am sure she also had to a walk a fine line when it came to enforcing rules, given the illicit substances that boys would sometimes arrange to send to themselves. In any case, she walked that line successfully, because no one blamed her if they got caught!
I express my condolences to Madelon's family, but also my thoughts on how fortunate they were to have her in their lives for so long. We meet many people in our lives - she was one of the good ones.

What a kind and generous soul. She was always ready with a smile and a warm welcome: Mrs. Kelley truly helped make TCS feel like a home for me, particularly in my first year. Her mail room was a sanctuary from the sea of students that sometimes overwhelmed me as an only-child New Boy. Please consider making a donation in her memory to the Alzheimer Society of Canada: https://support.alzheimer.ca/site/Donation2?1760.donation=form1&df_id=1760&mfc_pref=T&s_locale=en_CA

She was a great and gentle woman who I had the pleasure of keeping in touch with over the years when I left TCS. I looked forward to her yearly Christmas cards and visiting on occasion when I went up to TCS for a visit or for old boys game. The TCS community has lost a true angel. To me she was always my confident during my senior years at TCS as a border and someone who filled in when my mom wasn’t around. I will truly miss her. May she Rest In Peace.

Dear Kelley Family,
I was so sorry to learn of Madelon's passing. I have incredibly fond memories of her from my time in Port Hope in late 1980s. She was a great person and really cared about others and how they were doing. A great sense of humour and a great laugh. She was certainly a friend to me while I was at TCS and I so much appreciated her. Hopefully the many happy memories you all have of Madelon will help you as you struggle through the sadness of losing her. My thoughts are with you.
All the best,
Matthew Boswell

My deepest condolences to the family. I will miss our occasional phone call just to catch up. Like many of her TCS kids, I will always treasure how she loved and treated us as her own. There is a wonderful picture of us together in the Store on page 32 of the TCS Record year book.
