John and I spent many years in the same car pool going to BHS. He was a good friend as well as a colleague. I doubt I have ever met a more patient man. I never saw him flustered at anything. He taught some of the more difficult students in his classes and always saw the good side of all of them despite their requiring the patience of Job at times. I have many memories of our conversations over at least fifteen years. I share your loss with you Pat and family.

Dear Pat and family,
I was so sadden to hear about John's passing. John and I worked in the Co-op Department at BHS for many years. He was the best teacher and colleague...,he was always so supportive. I remember him fondly as he was so patient, kind and hard-working. John was so easy to talk to and always had a smile on his face. He truly loved teaching and he helped so many students reach their potential. He touched so many hearts during his career as a teacher. With condolences and fond memories, Ruth Sorley

Mrs B.and family: So very very sorry for your loss. First met Mr. B. 61 years ago when I was the smallest and clutziest kid in his Grade 9 Industrial Arts class. He was always kind and patient. Over the years, whenever he met my parents, he asked after me. Latterly, we became friends; but, despite his oft repeated request, I could never call him "John". Port Hope has lost one of its best and I grieve with you. Sincerely, Thom Fowler.

To Pat and family…. Marion and I send deep regrets at your loss.I am happy to say I knew John as a fine teacher, as a stalwart of the Port Hope Probus Club, as a nice neighbour and as a pleasant and gentle friend. John’s quiet manner hid his quiet and gentle humour as well. He loved to reflect on the earlier history of Port Hope and could tell a tale with a lovely smile on his face. eare sorry for your loss. My sincere condolences to John’s family and friends. On my return to Port Hope in 2005, John reminded me and we laughed together about a less than perfect campfire reflective oven I designed and built in his grade 9 Industrial Arts classes. John was a much respected teacher and mentor to so many students at Port Hope High School.
Over the last 15 years, there were many occasions when John and I would meet in passing. He always had a warm smile and friendly greeting.
He will be so missed by so many whose lives he touched and affected so positively.
Again, my condolences.
Respectfully
Rob Keyes

Our heartfelt condolences to Pat and family. We were both shocked and saddened to hear of John’s passing. Besides being a friendly helpful and valued member of our PROBUS club, we also knew John as an active and willing volunteer for many of our local charities ( Cancer Society, Salvation Army Kettle Fund). No matter the weather, John was always one who could be counted on. His passing has certainly left a void in our community and most certainly in his family.
