John would definitely call me a "punk" if I wouldn't say anything on his passing , so dare I say I agree with you all in what you say about him very compassionately , but I knew him mostly when he was a younger man to when he was older , and yes his candor and vigor never swayed , because when he looked at you and gave you his one liner of how he summed up the situation , it meant something , love you John , haven't talked to you since Bernie passed , it's a sad day for me today , hearing of your passing , I'm definitely shedding tears , and having a drink on you ,

I was a 16 year old punk dating your daughter, you had every right to hate me but instead you brought me in a treated me with respect. You taught me the fine art of socialising and drinking rum..you were a generous man and funny as hell, I always thought so anyways even when Jeanette didn’t :) Rest In Peace John thanks for the great memories…

Here is great picture of John, doing what he loved to do! He was an avid hunter, as we all know. My family has known John for many years! He was definitely a character and had a huge interest in politics and a love for the “Town of Port Hope”. It was nice to see him a month ago when he was passing through! You will be sorely missed John.

To "The man who ran" John as some people have alluded to was a complicated character, at times some what of a Rasputin. I'm saddened that he is gone. He was a good friend, a man who was so deeply concerned about the welfare of the community and Port Hope's ability for community resistance and resilience to adversity. John had a keen intellect and I enjoyed our hours of policy debate over bottles of red wine. To Jeanette and her family, I offer my condolences, what a loss of a giant human being.

John had a good and generous heart. He was always there if anyone needed help whether that help was physical or emotional. John always sought good advice from people he liked or trusted.
John could be a pain in the butt on occasion - that was John. Some of us treated him like a brother and he always responded with a smile.
John got elected to council on energy and effort. He was a leader on causes that mattered. John always put his shoulder to the wagon.
Juliet, my brother Raymond and I were lucky to have known John

I offer my condolences to my daughter, grandchildren, John’s sister, brothers and friends.
I grieve because I loved, because we shared history, because we cared for the same people, because I am sad.
Here is poem that touched me:
His Journey’s Just Begun by Ellen Brenneman
Don’t think of him as gone away
his journey’s just begun,
life holds so many facets
this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting
from the sorrows and the tears
in a place of warmth and comfort
where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing
that we could know today
how nothing but our sadness
can really pass away.
And think of him as living
in the hearts of those he touched
for nothing loved is ever lost
and he was loved so much.
Rest Peacefully John Floyd, you were one of a kind.
