Obituary of Barbara Jean Gray
Gray, Barbara Jean
June 17,1932 - December 24,2023
Passed away peacefully on Sunday December 24,2023 at Northumberland Hills General Hospital after a brief illness. Barbara Jean (nee Redner).
Barbara was pre-deceased by her husband Beverly Stanley Gray. Loving mother to Scott Gray (Claire) and Pamela Buchholz (Mike). Cherished Grandmother of Cortni Buchholz (Dale), Mercedes Buchholz (Gabe) and Zack Carrie (Nikki). Great-grandmother of Bentley, Paislee and Mila. She is survived by her sister, Sybil Daboll and pre-deceased by her sister, Anita Vanderwater and brother, Roger Redner.
Barbara was raised on a farm near Rednersville, in Prince Edward County Ontario. 'Early in life, she became a member of a group of Junior Farmers who still maintain loyal friendships to this day. She graduated from Kemptville College where she met her husband Bev, and together they pursued a lifelong devotion to family, farming and friends over the span of 33 years. After Bev's passing in 1987, Barbara continued to live on the family farm she loved so dearly her entire life.
Deeply supportive of everyone in her life, she continued a lifelong quest of expanding her group of friends and acquaintances. Her independent mind, personable style, and penchant for offering up home baked goods, especially pie, always won people over that knocked on her door. Throughout her life she enjoyed inviting friends and family to the farm for a beautiful home cooked meal, guaranteed to impress and delight. She enjoyed quilting, painting, playing cards and reading. She was a member of the Garden Hill United Church and affiliated UCW.
Barbara applied her strong moral code throughout life: while a Real Estate Agent with Ken Hockin Real Estate in Cobourg; when appointed as a Justice of the Peace and sitting on a disciplinary board for the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
She will forever be in our hearts. Visitation to be held at Allison Funeral Home 103 Mill St. N, Port Hope on January 6th, 2024 from 2-4pm and Sunday January 7th,2024 from 1-2pm followed by a service and celebration of life. Donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
