Obituary of Frances Clout

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother Frances Clout (née Robertson), who passed away peacefully in Cobourg, Ontario, on January 5th, 2025, at the age of 97.

Frances will be deeply missed by her children Kathryn Clout, Robert Clout (Christiane), and Karen Clout (David); her cherished grandsons Jeffrey, Sebastien, and Beckett; her sister Marilyn Bamber; and her many nieces and nephews. She is reunited in peace with her husband Edward, her son Randall, her parents, sister Phyllis, and brother Gordon.

Born in East Angus, Quebec, to Robert Wallace Robertson and Violet Tooey on June 14, 1927, Frances lived a vibrant and full life. In her youth, she enjoyed summers spent bicycling with friends, winters filled with skating and hockey, and participating in Canadian Girls in Training (CGIT) activities that nurtured her lifelong sense of community.

In September 1947, Frances married Edward Albert Clout, also of East Angus, and together they embarked on a life filled with shared adventures and creative endeavors. From building a cherished family cottage to renovating numerous homes, including a century-old farmhouse in Dufferin Heights, Quebec, their partnership was one of hard work and vision. Their journey took them to Granby, Toronto, Montreal, Athens, and Brockville, each move enriching their lives with new experiences. After Edward’s passing, Frances found a new chapter in Cobourg Ontario, where she discovered a welcoming community.

Frances was active in bowling, tennis, and badminton, and she found great satisfaction in her creative pursuits, including gardening, quilting, sewing, needlework, rug braiding, and other crafts. Her hands were always busy creating something beautiful, and her warmth and kindness touched everyone who knew her.

Frances’s life was defined by resilience, and a dedication to family and community. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the memories she created with those who loved her.

A service and burial of her ashes will be held at Holy Trinity Oak Leaf, 107 Oak Leaf Rd., Oak Leaf Ontario, on June 7th 2025 at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Arthritis Society Canada in her memory.
