Obituary of Irene Frances Mary Pickering

Pickering, Irene Frances Mary (nee Bradley). Peacefully passed away in her 84th year on Sunday May 16 2010 at Northumberland Hills Hospital, Cobourg. Beloved wife of the late Donald J. Pickering. Loving mother of Susan (John), Lynn (Paul), Alan (Sandra), Scott (Sharon), Edward Bruce (Shauna) and Jane. Lovingly remembered by her 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Predeceased by her grand daughter, Justine Ada, her sisters, Pauline and Josephine, and brothers, Bruce and Gerald. Survived by her brothers, Basil (Norma) and John (Joan), and her many nieces and nephews. At Irene?s request a family service and celebration of her life, and interment at Canton Cemetery have taken place. Born and raised in Goderich, ON, Irene married Don, a WW11 RCAF Veteran, in 1947. They raised their family in Brantford and Toronto, moving to Port Hope in 1961 and establishing D.J. Pickering & Co. Floor Coverings on John Street. Along with being an outstanding homemaker, cook, seamstress, and gift-shopper extraordinaire, Irene also volunteered her service as Area Commissioner of Girl Guides and worked in a supervisory capacity for Statistics Canada.
