Dear Eileen and Family,
I was saddened to hear of Mel's passing on August 8th. I have always admired Mel for his vision and contributions to Port Hope and grateful that he purchased both of my grandfathers businesses and carried their names as long as he owned the stores. It was always a pleasure to drop into Randall's and catch up with Port Hope news from Mel. As others have noted, he always asked about family and remembered names - a gift indeed. He was always proud of his family too and a very caring man. It was a privilege to know Mel. He will certainly be missed by all who knew him.
My sincere condolences to you and your family.

He always was a part of the fabric of Port Hope, and going back there now will just not be the same without him. I just want to pass on sincere condolences from me and my family. I was so sorry to hear about Mel, he was such a gentleman. My mum, Bella Milne, worked for him for a few years and she always said he was the best boss! Whenever you met Mel he always asked about my family, especially the grandkids, he never forgot any of them. My condolences to the Talbot family, he will be missed!

I was very sorry to hear about the passing of Mel Talbot. Whenever I revisited Port Hope and shopped in the town, I would be able to have a conversation and a laugh about old times. I would like to offer my condolences and that of my office staff at MacDonald, Charette & Associates, to Eileen, Jamie and the rest of your family. We really enjoyed meeting and working with Mel over the years. He was a real gentleman always with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. He was also really smart and asked interesting questions and gave insightful comments - a joy to deal with . He was very proud of you, Jamie and obviously enjoyed working with you in your businesses. His love for you Eileen was front and center every time that I met with the two of you. He will be missed by you all but take heart in the memory of his love for you. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Eileen Maggie and Sherrie and Jamie
I am very sad to hear of Mel's passing! You were there for us when my parents passed on and I was truly touched by your kindness at that sad time in my life!
Every time we would arrive in Port Hope I made a point to visit with Mel in the store. He was our official greeter and I will always treasure his welcoming and happy warm embrace! If he was not in the store I would make a point of it to return for a few moments just to say hi to him! He would bring us up to date with the family and how proud he was of all of you!!!!
He is the reason I love to play Euchre as well! Remember those nights we played one euchre game after another? He helped me become a better player!
You were fantastic neighbours while living on William Street! I loved it when Rusty your dog would come over to visit and stay a while to rest then spin around chasing his tail!
Mel will be surely missed by all and I will always be thankful we stayed in touch and became long distant friends!
My sympathy go to the entire family at this time! We are at the cottage in Quebec and I highly doubt we can make it to the funeral but know we are with you in spirit!
May God give you the peace that he is in a wonderful and peaceful place !
Love to all Praying for you !
Gloria and David Gray
