Obituary of James Melville Talbot

Talbot, James Melville (Mel)

 

Passed away at his home in Port Hope on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 with his family at his side. Mel Talbot was a WWII veteran and a long-time Port Hope merchant, beloved husband of Eileen. Loving father of Sheryl (John Middlemiss), Margaret (Mark Weidmark) and James (Jamie) (Jane Lakatos). Also survived by grandchildren Tara Middlemiss (Feanno Agard), Kristine Middlemiss (Matthew Baird), Kathleen and Laura Weidmark, Samantha, Brittany and James Talbot, Pascal Blais (Sarah St. Pierre), Chloe Blais and great-grandchildren William, Charles and Vivienne. Brother of Lois Hurren and the late Phyllis Ireland, Murray Talbot and Floyd Talbot, and brother-in-law to June Talbot, Thelma Talbot and the late William Ireland and Lorne Hurren. The proprietor of Randall's gift and stationery store on Walton Street for over four decades, Mel was welcoming and serving customers into his 94th year. From 1961 to 1976 Mel and his brother Floyd were co-proprietors of Hancock's Hardware on Ontario Street. Mel was past president of Branch 30, Port Hope Royal Canadian Legion, having served as a Leading Air Craftman, RCAF during the second world war (Europe). He was also a former president of the Port Hope Agricultural Society, making valuable contributions to agriculture and rural life. Friends will be received at the Allison Funeral Home, 103 Mill Street North, Port Hope, Saturday 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm. Funeral Service Sunday 2 pm.
