Obituary of Irvin Isidor Wolkoff

DR. IRVIN ISIDOR WOLKOFF Dr. Walkoff, 66, passed away peacefully at home in Campbellcroft, ON., with his beloved wife, Carol, at his side, on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Father to three wonderful daughters, Joanie, Zoë, and Olivia. Dr. Wolkoff was a Renaissance Man, first and foremost a brilliant and dedicated psychiatrist and healer, who cared deeply about his patients and helped hundreds of them along the path to fulfilling and productive lives. Graduating from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto in 1976, Dr. Wolkoff had a private psychiatric practice in Toronto for 36 years. Founder and director of the Continuing Care Clinic for Young Schizophrenics at Toronto General Hospital, Dr. Wolkoff was also a lecturer in TGH's department of psychiatry, a part-time professor at Humber College, consulting psychiatrist at Bayview Community Services and Metro Orthopedic Rehabilitation, distinguished speaker with the Mood Disorders Association of Ontario, Toronto and Durham, a member of the Ontario Medical Association's Board of Directors, a member of the Medical Post's Advisory Board, a court-recognized expert on stress and a popular radio and television personality in Canada and the United States, who helped to explain psychiatry and an informed psychiatric worldview to the general public. Dr. Wolkoff was also a member and past vice-president of the Wine Writers' Circle of Canada, wine columnist for the Medical Post, a lover, along with his wife, Carol, of fine wine, food and friends, a brilliant (electric) guitarist, amateur singer and a rapid-fire comedian and impressionist in the style of Robin Williams (before Robin Williams became famous). A celebration of Dr. Wolkoff's life will be held at a later date.
