Obituary of Vernon Arthur Battersby
Battersby, Vernon Arthur
1935 - 2021
Vern was courageous, loving and an inspiration to us all. He passed away peacefully in his 86th year, on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, with his daughters by his side.
As the last remaining member of his family, he has now entered the Kingdom of Heaven to be reunited with his loving wife Carol (nee Rowland). There, he joins his parents Stanley and Catherine and his brothers Ron (Barb), Ken, Larry (Diane) and Gordon. Vern is survived by his brother-in-law Jack (Liz) Rowland and sister-in-law Jane (Peter) Rumgay. His quick wit, sense of humour and caring ways will be greatly missed by his many nieces, nephews and their families.
Vern is very loved and will always be in the hearts of his family, Brenda & Dean Johns and Elizabeth & Michael Highfield. He is adored by his grandchildren Tyler & Somer Johns, Katherine & Claire Wilson, Madison & Brooklyn Highfield and great-granddaughters Chloe & Aubrey Johns.
Thank you to Dr Hazel, Dr Cornish, the Drs, nurses and health care team at NHH for your kindness and compassion during these very trying times. A very special thank you to Dr Hughes, Colleen and team at Kawartha Cardiac Clinic for your commitment to providing him with many years of exceptional care. Our family is forever grateful for the care and support of our extended family at Cobourg Retirement Residence for providing a safe and comforting environment.
A celebration of his life will be held at St Johns Anglican Church, Port Hope at a later date. Donations can be made through Allison’s Funeral Home in support of St Johns Anglican Church and Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice.
Not a day will go by that we are not grateful for the many years of his love and laughter. May he always be remembered as the sweet little man in his Model A Ford honking his horn and waving to strangers to bring a smile to their faces.
