I send my deepest condolences to Drake’s family and friends. I was only a recent acquaintance with Drake, but I wish to share a couple moments I had with him that I will continue to hold close and that speak of the authentic and beautiful person he was and the impact he left.
I had the great fortune of meeting Drake on two separate occasions last month on the shore of Lake Ontario. On the first day, (a particularly warm one for early March) I had made my way across Gages Creek to admire the drift wood shelters and sculptures. This secluded section of the beach had become a sanctuary of hope and solace for me during these dark, isolated times we are all confronting and I found myself wandering here when my heart ached most.
On this particular afternoon, I spotted Drake and Rosie making their way towards me. Their strong bond was unmistakeable as they played fetch, daring each other closer to the frigid tide. Drake’s bare feet in the sand (which left me incredulous!) struck me as a sign of his radiant and free spirit. Rosie was the first to greet me with a quick kiss on the hand and Drake bellowed a friendly “how are ya?” with matching grin. Their warm presence felt like a mirage to me — I recall fondly how their shared love and joy filled my heart instantly. I came home that evening feeling lighter and at ease with a dazed smile.
My second encounter with Drake three weeks ago is another fond memory I will cherish. Once again, like a mirage, they materialized on the beach within moments of my arrival. We laughed at Rosie attempting to pick up heavy rocks with her teeth and after kindly warning me that I was trespassing (my apologies!) we made a soft plan to go on a walk together if we did meet again.
I may not encounter Drake again in this physical realm but I will continue to carry these memories of him with me. Visiting the shore will remind me of his bright, inner light and kindness. There is no doubt in my mind that Drake’s spirit will live on with Rosie and continue to stroll the beach, barefoot and care-free. Thank you for your vibrant presence and for inspiring joy when I needed it most. See you later, Drake. Fly high. ❤️

Jenny, Steve and Wylie - you are in our hearts. We are so saddened by the loss of “Drakester” - as we will always remember him. We had recently met up with him and Rosie and had a chance to share some hockey, skiing and cottage stories. We had a good chat about the old days, and he shared some laughs with André. We dug up a recent picture from our beach walk, and some old ones to share. I also have this quote to share:
Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest. Heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul. Play on Drake.

There is no heart break more devastating the loss of your child no matter how old they are. There are no words to comfort you. Just know that there are people out there who understand this loss and are here for you. I remember the days when Drake played hockey with my son. He was a good kid. Please accept our deepest condolences on the loss of your son. Keeping you all in our hearts.

It is with heavy heart that I write this. I know there is no greater loss than the loss of a child. There are no words, no gestures, no solace. I extend my deepest condolences to Jenny, Steve, Wyley and family. I sincerely hope you find solace in the words of Mary Elizabeth /frye:
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the softly falling snow
I am the gentle showers of rain
I am the fields of ripening grain
I am in the morning hush
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight
I am the stars that shine at night
I am in the flowers that bloom
I am the quiet in the room
I am in the birds that sing
I am in each lovely thing
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there, I did not die.
With great condolences,
Kim Jobe

I've shared some memories through facebook, but I thought I'd come here to offer condolences, and my final thoughts that I'd like to leave his family with.
Drake could not have come into my life at a better time. It's like he knew exactly what needed to happen, to a deeper level I never could've understood at my young age. Drake came into my life, already with wisdom, knowledge, and awareness I'd yet to see until much later. I was an eccentric, friendly, outgoing kid, but not at all brave. I didn't understand bravery until I met Drake, then it all started to click. He had a mindset that was all about perspective (when WE hung out anyway). Every single thing he did, word he said, or action he took, had value that proved what life was about, and how to enjoy it. He was the initial driving force to my now love and admiration of music. I couldn't have known then, but he helped me understand the amount of passion I had for music, especially writing my own. I hope to write something on behalf of him sometime soon. He showed me the riskier side of life, the side that involved taking chances to get what you really want out of life. Bombing a narrow hill on our longboards is quite the example to demonstrate what I mean, but he had a way of pushing me to new endeavours, that always seemed to work.
I really could go on, and on, and on, but I figure it's time I wrap this up. All I've left to say is that Drake was special. He brightened my day so often, I can't even count how many times. I had such a unique friendship with him for only a few years, but they were some of the most important years if my life, and he played one of the largest roles for me in that time. I will miss him, and I will hold the fond memories he and I shared a little closer to my heart for the rest of my life.
Enjoy this incredibly dorky picture of Drake and I walking the Red Carpet at the West. HE was royalty, I was his accompaniment.

I was lucky enough to attend school with Drake all the way through since grade 1. He always brought a lot of joy and laughter to the classroom and those around him, I remember him often getting his tongue stuck to the poll at Burnham school and whipping around on his longboard in his high school. I lived close by so we would have the occasional walk home from school. The world will miss his bright smile. Sending lots of love and prayers to the Veinot family, Rest In Peace Drake. Love from Rachel Brough and family

I knew Drake back in the day. We were classmates and friends at Terry Fox PS and were around each other in high school. I’ll never forget sitting on the bus to Ottawa with him in grade 8 - giggling about something I can’t quite remember now, and two years later, watching, with wide eyes, him finger pick some rap song in front of our whole class at Camp Viking. He had a way about him that wouldn’t let you forget him. Kind eyes & a kind heart. I still think of him often to this day. The world really will miss his light. May he Rest In Peace, and may you find comfort in each other and your memories in this tragic time. Sending love and prayers, love from Emilee Darling
