Obituary of Sharon Marlene Pretty
Sharon Marlene Pretty, a beloved mother & grandmother, kind sister, cherished friend and proud Newfoundlander left us peacefully in the early hours of November 14th. She was surrounded by family, and our love.
Born in Buchans on December 16, 1948 to Heman and Nora Pretty, she lived, travelled and adventured throughout much of the world, but always called Newfoundland home. She is survived by her daughter Odette and son-in-law Corey, and her grandson Oliver whom she adored, her brother and sister, Carl Pretty and Beverly Power, her sisters-in-kind Mary Pridham and Trudi McCarthy, and the many extended family members and friends who she loved so dearly.
A lifelong teacher, Sharon taught in Labrador, Geraldton, Australia and, for many years, within the Durham region. She was committed to her profession and treasured by her colleagues and students. She retired to Paradise Newfoundland in 2007, building close knit communities of family and friends with her laughter and warmth.
Only recently moving back to Ontario, Sharon spent her final months in Port Hope, Ontario close to her daughter and grandson, and making new friends wherever she went, as was always her way.
Sharon was fierce, loving and full of so much joy. Her laughter was contagious and loving embrace was home for so many. We were all blessed to have her in our lives.
A funeral mass for Sharon will take place at 11am, Monday November 25th, 2024, at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 155 Walton St, Port Hope, ON L1A 1N7. Friends and family are invited to join a reception afterwards at 92 Ontario Street, Port Hope, ON L1A 2T9.
Thereafter she’ll be taken back to Newfoundland, her ashes placed in rest with her father.
